GE is using fixed-wing drones for inspections of the power lines

General Electric is exploring the use of drones to help with inspections of the power lines. The company is using fixed-wing drones, the kind that look like small airplanes, in the U.S. and abroad. They can capture images of vegetation or tall trees growing too close to the towers.

Most modern passenger jets in principle are drones, meaning they can fly themselves without the intervention of a human pilot and certainly without the intervention of a human pilot on board.                                                                  During almost the entire flight of a modern jet airlines, the computer is in fact flying the aircraft.                                                                                                                 Enormous cost savings would be possible if on board pilots would be entirely replaced by computers, supervised perhaps by remote human operators on the ground.
